Crime Support for Bodies Corporate

Steven Garland, Body Corporate General Manager, outlines how our team assists Body Corporate clients when damage has been done and who we collaborate with to ensure robust support to mitigate crime impacts.

A troubling trend of increased crime has been observed in recent months in Auckland and our Body Corporate team are here to help provide crime support for bodies corporate. Recorded crimes have surged by over 20% since the onset of Covid-19. This uptick in criminal activity aligns with a broader national trend, where reported crimes in New Zealand have risen by more than 12% between 2017 and 2022.

Our team is acutely aware of the impact crime has on our clients and their buildings. One of our clients suffered multiple burglaries at their commercial property in Auckland, with four out of ten units being targeted. Another nearby building, not managed by us, also experienced a break-in and thankfully one of our owners was able to provide video footage of the incident.

In light of events like these, we’re committed to providing robust support to mitigate the impact on your building or property. We collaborate with a network of insurance brokers and Loss Adjustors who specialise in quantifying damages and draft repair strategies.

Individual assessments after any damage from crime will need to be made. Here’s how we can assist:

1. Damage Assessment and Repair Strategy:

  • Photographic Evidence: Detailed photos are needed which document the damage.
  • Repair Methodology and Quantities: A comprehensive plan outlining the repair process and materials needed.
  • Cost Planning Rates: Provisional rates for the estimated repair costs.
  • Unit-specific Damages: A breakdown of damages apportioned to each affected unit.
  • Immediate Rectification: Identification of areas requiring urgent attention.
  • Committee Involvement: We will work with the committee on quoting for remedial works as well as help implement any risk mitigating measures.

2. Proactive Security Enhancements:

  • We can also arrange for a security enhancement assessment report for your building. This proactive measure will help you bolster security and reduce the risk of future incidents.

Your property’s security and integrity are our top priorities. Should you have any concerns or need immediate assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to help ensure that your property is well-protected and that any damage is addressed promptly and effectively.

Stay safe and secure

Kind regards

Steven Garland
